National Museum of the United States Air Force
The City of Dayton has an incredible history with the science of flight. Some bolder claims even name it the “Birthplace of Aviation!” It is here in this beautiful city where the Wright Brothers had an inkling of thought towards flight, and where they drafted the world’s first flying machine. Even the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, Dayton’s favorite place to go when it comes to all-things performance arts, commemorated the evening of the Wright Brothers’ first flight on the Mead Theater’s dome. And as of the present day, this momentous breakthrough is preserved in the National Museum of the United States Air Force here in Dayton, Ohio.
The National Museum of the United States Air Force is a part of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and is the oldest aviation museum in the entire world (some even say it is the best in the entire world)! The contents of the museum were donations from the US Air Force, first displayed in an earlier museum, but then moved to a newly built building in 1971.
Its gallery begins in the early days of flight, reaching all the way back to the 1st World War, moving in chronological order all the way to the modern-day. The museum is home to some of the most significant aircraft in US history, such as the planes operated by President Roosevelt, Truman, and Clinton, to the very last XB-70A Valkyrie on Earth! What is even better is that the museum offers daily tours for free! What is better than traveling back in time and witnessing the US’ violent and heroic flights across the vast and open-air for FREE?

The history of flight has always fascinated us, especially when our entire community calls the City of Dayton home! And museums are one of the greatest ways to communicate how important history is to the world. But the exhibits are not the only thing that is planned when a museum is to be built.
